Benalla Fire Brigade senior running team finish seventh in the state at the State Urban Senior Championships.
By Monique FreerAs reported in last week’s Ensign, Benalla Fire Brigade is again celebrating success following the senior running team’s exceptional results at the State Urban Senior Championships. Following the success of the junior team two weeks ago, the seniors had a lot to live up to at the Warrnambool competition.
The weekend opened with the Discipline Marching Team consisting of Ron Schultz, Steve Phillips, Bill Armstrong, Ashlee Gawley, Brett Green, Chris Gawley, Garry Johnston and Elspeth Gawley (valet) who did extremely well, ranking fourth out of 28 teams in the C-section group.
The focus then turned to the runners, Brett Green (coach), Les Pallpratt, David Smith (Glenrowen Fire Brigade), Nic Bailey, Alex Walker, Stephen Smith (Wangaratta Fire Brigade), Ashlee Gawley and Jessie Beaton to put their best feet forward. They certainly showed what a young team could do and placed third in the C-section aggregate and seventh in the state.
