It was a successful weekend at the Shepparton Junior Basketball Tournament last week as the Benalla Breakers’ Under-16 girls won the C-grade grand final.
The Breakers made their way through to the finals with convincing wins against Shepparton 23-7, Deniliquin 40-14, Mansfield 49-8, Shepparton 26-9 (semi-final) and again defeating Shepparton 33-7 in the grand final.
The Under-14 squad girls qualified for the grand final and were runners-up to Swan Hill, losing by nine points.
The girls were recently runners-up at the Wangaratta Tournament a few weeks ago, narrowly defeated by one point playing Castlemaine; while in division one, Benalla’s Under-16 boys lost the preliminary final by only one point with just seconds to go in the game.
Benalla Basketball Association will host its own tournament on the weekend of February 22 and 23, 2014 and will have representatives from the club in all age groups.
The domestic competition will now break for the holidays and the season will recommence in the week beginning February 10, 2014.
