A number of Benalla and district residents braved inclement weather to compete in the Melbourne Marathon on Sunday.
David Joyce and Bruce Howie ran the marathon, with Joyce finishing in a personal best time of three hours and four minutes.
‘‘When I stopped playing footy I just started running to keep fit,’’ Joyce said.
‘‘I’ve done about six of them now.’’
Brendan Walsh (one hour 32 minutes), Jim Begley (one hour 42 minutes), Jason Ross (one hour 49 minutes) and Dave O’Donoghue (one hour 52 minutes) also completed the half marathon.
O’Donoghue said the group trained together and ran the half-marathons as a means of keeing fit.
‘‘We train as a group of about five or six of us .
O’Donoghue described the feeling of finishing the half marathon as a relief.
‘‘You feel pretty relieved more than anything, you’re pretty sore and mentally you’ve pretty much had enough,’’ he said.
‘‘You’re just glad to have it all over and done with.’’
