Benalla's Dylan Long is currently running fourth in the Pro Lites class of the Australian Supercross Championships.
Local Benalla rider Dylan Long is excelling in motocross, running fourth in the Australian Supercross Championships in the Pro Lites class.
The series is held over six rounds including Darwin, Mt Gambier, Phillip Island and Toowoomba.
In round four Long qualified sixth because of a flat tyre, but finished third in the heat race after getting edged out for second place.
In the main event Long spun on the start line and got boxed in on the first corner.
Despite riding 12th for several laps he pushed his way into fifth place at the finish line.
‘‘I was happy with fifth place with the sun and dust it was hard to see, which made me ride a bit tight,’’ he said.
The most recent fifth round was held at Phillip Island, where Long qualified fifth.
The top eight riders all qualified on the same second, but Gavin Faith and Luke Styke got ahead to push Long from third to fifth position.
In the heat race Long got a good start into fourth and made his way through to second behind Faith before being passed by Luke Arbon on the final lap.
In the main event Long got off the start really well and positioned himself in second behind Faith. Having pulled away from Ryan Marmont and Styke, he was stuck behind Faith for the race until the second last corner.
However, on the second-last corner Long went over the triple and landed his front wheel half in a rut, making his front end tuck and fall. Long hit the ground hard, but still finished third after getting back up for a strong finish.
‘‘I am stoked with my speed setting some of the fastest lap times behind Faith and Hill,’’ Long said.
