Benalla Bowls Club has welcomed a head coach to the team for the first time in about 10 years.
Wayne Crawford joined the club on August 6 as the full-time head coach for the outdoor section of Benalla Bowls Club.
A Koonoomoo resident, Crawford has been playing bowls for 21 years and has been a qualified club coach for nine.
‘‘The positiveness from the club is just amazing, from members, the board etcetera,’’ Crawford said.
Crawford has played metropolitan Melbourne premier league and division one pennant bowls, and was president of Tocumwal Bowls Club in 2011.
His passion for bowls is infectious around his home, with his partner also an accredited bowls coach and his two teenage sons members of the Victorian under-18 state squad.
He said he was already enjoying his time in Benalla and was looking forward to working with the club to get more juniors involved.
‘‘Bowls is going to be very big with juniors at this club,’’ he said.
Benalla Bowls Club will host the Victorian Schools Pennant in February, 2014. It will run for six weeks, including finals, and Benalla Bowls Club hopes to get more junior bowlers involved before the event.
