Yarrawonga shade sails targeted by vandals
Vandals have gone on the rampage, causing approximately $4000 damage to shade sails covering the playground at Kennedy Park, Yarrawonga.
Leading Snr Cst Russell Welsh said in the early hours of Thursday morning vandals had slashed, pulled and ripped several of the sails.
“These sails had only just been repaired and replaced from a previous incident,” Snr Cst Welsh said. “With Moira Shire continually having to repair these things it is just taking money away from other vital projects.”
Resident Alison Pattison expressed her dismay that “yet again” the shade sails had been ruined.
“Why do people do things like this, it is so disappointing” she said. “I come here with my grandchildren, Isabel (3) and Thomas (17 months), at least once a week and, especially in the hot weather, we need this area shaded. Maybe the council should look at putting surveillance cameras up. It will be expensive but then so is the cost of constantly replacing the shade sails.”
