Almost six months ago Ulla Neumann’s home in the Sun Country Holiday Village, Mulwala was destroyed by the devastating tornado.By Fiona Blick
But now, thanks to the efforts of a team of local contractors, Ulla has a new home.
Ulla was not at home during the March 21 tornado, she was visiting her family in Albury, which was fortunate as, during the height of the storm, a huge industrial waste bin was picked up by the 200km/h plus winds and slammed through her front window.
Jacqui Sonter, manager at Sun Country, said she hated to think what would have happened to Ulla had she been home that night.
“Ulla is a very special long term resident, she is such a lovely lady and was very distressed when she lost her home in the tornado that tore through the park,” Jacqui said.
“Sun Country is now basically back to normal, we only have two more homes to fix up which is fantastic.
“The main builder, Rod Stacey, has been brilliant organising Ulla’s new home for her; he has gone over and above what you would normally expect a builder to do, he has even weeded and mulched her garden for her.”
Rod himself admitted that Ulla was a very special lady.
“She is lovely and I really wanted to do a good job for her,” he said.
“I am so glad we were given this job, it has been a wonderful experience.
“All the local tradies we have worked with have been marvellous including David Penrose Plastering, Thompson Electrical, Bundalong Plumbing, DK Painting, Biggers Floorworld and CE Kitchens.
“Scott Milburne and his apprentice Eli Boyer helped us do the initial work and quoted on the job in the first place so credit must go to them as well.”
KTR Construction principal contractor James Longfield congratulated Rod Stacey Building and all trades involved in the repair of Ulla’s home.
“It is a fantastic result with attention to detail while also completing in excellent time,” James said.
“Thank you for your huge effort in helping Ulla into her new home.”
And what does Ulla think of her new home?
“It is 1,000 times better, it is so beautiful,” she said.
“I want to thank everyone involved, people have been so kind to me.
“I feel like a very special, lucky lady.”
