Tatura was left without a local taxi service for several days last week after Tatura Taxis’ office was suddenly and unexpectedly closed up.
Customers attempting to phone for a taxi received no response and others who had arranged their journeys in advance were left without transport when their pre-booked taxi failed to arrive.
A number of elderly customers due to attend medical appointments were affected as well as shoppers and other people with longer distance travel plans.
Drivers from Shepparton covered as many calls in Tatura as they could but delays were experienced after the office was shut down on Friday, February 10 until alternative arrangements were set up on Thursday, February 16.
Tatura Taxis’ owner Frank Edwards, who is based in Rushworth, said the sudden closure was caused by staffing issues.
Mr Edwards said service had been restored with a Rushworth-based driver now covering the Tatura area during daytime hours on weekdays, while evenings are currently being covered by drivers from Kyabram.
Tatura Taxis’ telephone number has been diverted to enable calls to be taken but anyone with pre-booked journeys, booked before February 10, is urged to confirm their booking by phoning 5824
Local groups and organisations who pre-book taxis by sending booking forms by fax are requested to fax their forms to 5856
