Tatura Show on horizon
Several new events have been planned for the annual Tatura Show which will take place at Tatura Park at the end of this month
A host of new events have been planned for the 135th annual Tatura Show to be held at Tatura Park on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24.
To assist officials, intending exhibitors are requested to get entries in early, with horse events closing on Wednesday, March 20 and all other sections closing on Friday, March 15.
Association president Greg Perry said he would like to welcome all competitors and visitors to the 2013 show.
‘‘I wish to extend a sincere thank you to all those who have so generously donated trophies and prize money, and those who have given many valued hours of hard work in the lead up to this year’s show,’’ he said.
Mr Perry also acknowledged the committee for its continued support.
With the main show conducted on Saturday and most horse events on Sunday, some of the 2013 special events include animal nursery, schools poster display, beaut ute competition, decorated bike competition, show bags, fairy floss, face painting, Miss Showgirl and Junior Show Ambassador Award.
The VAS Junior Show Ambassador Award is open to males and female aged 16-20 years at the time of the show.
The award gives young people a chance to take part in a competition while still living in the district, with the winner to compete in a group final at a venue and date to be announced. Group winners will then compete at state level.
‘Tatura’s Got Talent’ organiser Janice Dreyer said this year’s event offered prize money of $100 for the winner and $50 for the runner-up, and with the entry fee only $5.
‘‘Entrants under 16 years of age require parent/guardian approval for entry and all equipment (excepting microphone) will have to be provided by the contestant,’’ she said.
Entry forms (available at the Guardian office), need to be lodged by March 20 to Tatura’s Got Talent, PO Box 224, Tatura 3616. For further information, Ms Dreyer can be contacted on 5826
Mr Perry said for ‘serious’ exhibitors, events include Supreme Goat, Tatura Milk Industries Interbreed Dairy Group, Supreme Harness Exhibit, Poultry Exhibit, D and M Stockfeeds Calf Rearing Competition, Junior Cattle Handling Competition, Mulcahy Nelson Best Vessel Dairy Cow or Heifer, pavilion events and much more.
He said town crier Judy Campbell would make a guest appearance at the show and there would be plenty to see and do.
Show schedules can be collected from Tatura Guardian during office hours.
Admission to the show is $25 a family (family passes bought prior to March 20 will cost $20); adult $10, children 5-16 $5 and concession $5.
