Federal Member for Murray Sharman Stone visited Tatura last week to confirm the Tatura RSL had been successful in receiving a $4000 grant through the Saluting their Service program.
Dr Stone presented RSL president Robert Mathieson with a certificate, acknowledging the grant on Wednesday.
Dr Stone said she was happy to make the funding announcement and present the RSL with a certificate for ‘‘this worthy project’’.
She said the RSL was to be commended for its efforts in honouring Private Mactier by creating a statue in the park which bears his name.
Mr Mathieson said the grant was specifically for the removal of the bluestone block in the Robert Mactier Memorial Gardens, which would be relocated in a new area of the park to accommodate the Robert Mactier Memorial Statue.
‘‘The grant will also assist with preparing the foundations for the statue,’’ he said.
‘‘It will help considerably in setting up the memorial, and the RSL would like to thank Dr Stone for her assistance in securing the grant, which is much appreciated.
Dr Stone also presented Volunteer Grant certificates on Wednesday to Rushworth Community House and Rushworth Kindergarten, who also submitted successful grant applications.
