Merrigum’s Shawn Stevenson (Mooroopna), Brett Macartney (assistant coach), Jake Ross (Mooroopna), Greg Pell (president), Rohan Hearn (Mooroopna), Glen Hart (assistant coach) and Christian Barnett (senior coach) prepare for the 2014 season.
President Greg Pell is hoping 2014 will compliment the successful 2013 Kyabram and District Football Netball season, which saw the senior football team and four netball teams make it to the finals, with the B-grade netballers making it back-to-back premierships.
‘‘The other pleasing aspect of this year was five wins by the under-18 boys who had previously gone five years without winning a game,’’ he said.
‘‘The club would really like to build on the under-18’s efforts this year, while maintaining continued success in the seniors and reserves.’’
Mr Pell said Christian Barnett will again coach the seniors, while new coach Luke Twynstra will take on the reserves.
‘‘The under-18 coach is Shane McLennan,’’ he said.
In the netball the following coaches have been appointed: A-grade,Theresa Bugoss; B-grade, still to be named; C-grade, Kathie Dawson; under-17, Chelsea Nicholson; and under-15, Belinda Turpin.
Netball spokesperson Tammy Hart said pre-season training would begin on Wednesday, January 8 at 6.30 pm, with team trials to be conducted on the first Tuesday and Thursday in February.
Barnett said football training for all grades will kick off on Tuesday, January 7, with training on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Mr Pell said with Merrigum Recreation Reserve Plan now in place, the club was looking forward to further development of the facility.
‘‘One item is the upgrade of the netball courts which we hope will be re-surfaced next year,’’ he said.
Mr Pell said the club was in a sound financial position, with an excellent sponsor base.
‘‘All that remains now is for the club to continue on from where it left off this year, and turn 2014 into another successful year both on and off the field,’’ he said.
