Federal Member for Murray Sharman Stone presented Tatura Men’s Shed with a $4400 Volunteer Grant certificate on Tuesday, for a defibrillator along with a trailer and marquee to assist with fundraising, thus ensuring the shed’s sustainability.
Dr Stone was impressed with the facilities at the men’s shed, after being shown around by president Allan Johnston who welcomed her, members, Tatura Community House (auspicing body) representatives and a council representative.
In presenting the certificate, Dr Stone acknowledged the wonderful support the men’s shed had received from the Tatura community since it was conceived in early 2011.
She said it had come a long way and Tatura should be proud to have such a facility, which was one of the best men’s sheds she had seen.
Dr Stone said with what the shed had to offer, there was no reason for Tatura men to be lonely.
‘‘Sitting down and enjoying a meal or working in the shed is a great way for men to get together and enjoy each other’s company,’’ she said.
‘‘I was very impressed by the scones, jam and cream (cooked by Alex Carter) that were provided for morning tea.’’
Dr Stone was also impressed with the Myna bird traps which are made by volunteers at Tatura Men’s Shed.
‘‘I have certainly got my eyes on one of them,’’ she said.
Mr Johnston thanked Dr Stone for coming along to present the certificate and thanked treasurer Ian Grant and Tom Perry for their work in securing the grant.
