beyondblue chair Jeff Kennett will officially open the Tatura Men's Shed on November 26.
A confirmed date has been set for the official opening of the Tatura Men’s Shed, two-and-a-half years after it was initially discussed.
Former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett will open the shed on November 26.
Ian Grant, who has stepped down as secretary of the committee and has been replaced by Robert Knight, said as chair of beyondblue, Mr Kennett was the ideal person to officially open the Tatura Men’s Shed.
Beyondblue is working to reduce the impact of depression and anxiety in the community, particularly in men, by raising awareness and understanding, empowering people to seek help, and supporting recovery, management and resilience.
The initial steering committee of the Men’s Shed met on October 18, 2011, and an appropriate venue was located at the Tatura Racecourse, sharing the Quarter Horse and Western Riding Association’s clubrooms.
And as they say in the classics, ‘‘the rest is history’’.
Today the facility boasts an 18m x 12m Colourbond workshop extension which caters for a variety of activities.
With a membership of over 50, the Men’s Shed has certainly proved to be a valuable asset to the Tatura community, not only offering the opportunity to connect with friends while maintaining an active body and mind, but providing a wide range of activities including the recently set up ‘men in the kitchen’ program.
