Division-two, currently situated fourth on the ladder, kept its finals chances alive by soundly defeating fifth placed Mooroopna by 26 shots, 99-73, gaining a vital 12 points to two win. With only three games remaining after this round before finals, it was important for Tatura to perform well. The overall win was well set up with John Attwood’s rink dominating against D. Stephens to secure a 17 shot win, 37-20. Peter LeSueur continued the club’s dominance only allowing B. Conley nine winning ends out of 25 with LeSueur home by a solid 10 shots, 24-14. Peter Wallis, under pressure for much of the day, was down 9-13 on the 15th end but with inspiring bowling from leader Geoff Plant, who for the second week in a row dominated his opponent, came home much the stronger to run out winners by seven shots, 22-15. Barry Parker, up against K. Sutherland, was out-bowled most of the match but was still only four shots down 15-19 on the 21st end. However, success was not to be and Parker’s rink eventually lost by eight shots, 16-24. A great team win and the Tatura side are eagerly looking forward to next week’s match against fellow locals Hill Top with the objective of further cementing their position in the top four with a resounding win and a march on to finals action.

Division-four had an extremely close encounter with Rushworth and although the team could not win a rink they still came home with two points. Two rinks in Charlie Morritt versus Arthur Garvey and Terry Gale versus N. Orr, both played tight games that resulted in drawn matches. Charlie Morritt came from three shots down on the 24th end to snatch a draw, 25-all, and in a low scoring match Terry Gale dropped one shot on the last to end up 18-all. Bob Bordett lost by three shots in his match with G. Roberts 21-24 and Geoff Pieper lost to J. Perry by 11 shots, 19-30. Overall, Rushworth took the win on Tatura home turf 97-83 and 12 points to two. Great to see club stalwart Stewart Mactier, a regular visitor to the club, keeping a close watch on how the teams are performing.

Members please note this Friday is the club barbecue and member’s draw. Attendance is encouraged.

Hill Top

Division-one

Matching up against ladder leaders Mooroopna proved to be a difficult task, but luckily for Hill Top there were a couple of rinks who could walk away with there heads held high. Although only gaining three points overall, Mick Hoopers rink carried on their winning ways with a fantastic four shot victory over Brad Orr, completing a triple of valuable wins in the last three weeks. Add to this to a grinding draw from Jock Hicks and there were plenty of positives to take out of this match.

J. Hicks, R. Evans, J. Kriesfeld and J. McNaughton 21 drew with J. Anselmi 21. M. Stark, L. Thomson, J. McCormick and T. Downie 23 lost to B. Lorains 30. M. Hooper, R. Coulston, J. Spedding and B. Moroney 22 defeated B. Orr 18. R. Werner, J. Flanagan, N. Mulcahy and A. Cross 17 lost to M. Ryan 23.

Division-two

It was a comprehensive win against Dookie at home for division-two this week. With two wins and a draw it should be just the impetus they need to finish this season out strongly. Andy Willaton’s rink recorded the biggest win of the day with a 15-shot victory, Ken Parks’s team was not far behind posting a 10-shot win and Ken Maynard had the draw.

Division-four

Another good win keeps the fours primed for finals action as they easily accounted for Mooroopna Golf this week. Good to see Ivan Pogue putting back-to-back wins together and his rink’s 27-shot victory surely has him back in season defining form. Bill Woods’s team also posted a significant victory and they will go into next week’s match against Shepparton Golf looking for another big win.

Division-five

All three teams won their first end and that was where the good news ended for division-five this week. Shepparton RSL proved to strong and won all three games, Ron Alpers rink looked like they were in with a chance as they only trailed by two shots on the 17th end before coming unstuck and giving away 10 shots in the next five ends.
