Adventuring at Barmah
The Shepparton Adventure Club braved the heat last week for their walk in Barmah.

The Shepparton Adventure Club’s November mid-week walk took in the Barmah National Park.
There was initially some discussion whether we would attempt this mid-week walk due to the forecast 35°C plus temperatures likely along the Murray.
After ensuring we all had sufficient water and safety provisions for warm weather, Dianne, Howard, Maartje, Chris and Richard headed off to Barmah Forest via Nathalia.
Dianne and Howard had previously reconnoitred a 10
Originally the plan was to do a car shuffle leaving a car at each end, but in this instance, as we only had one car, we decided to follow the river track until we felt we had gone far enough and then retrace our steps back to the car.
Leaving our car at The Gulf camping area near a boat launching ramp, we set off in dappled shade and followed the winding Murray, occasionally leaving the marked vehicle track to follow a walking pad immediately alongside the river.
The bird life was quite prolific which excited both Dianne and Howard who, with binoculars in hand, attempted to identify various bird species.
While the day was hot, the breeze coming over the river made walking not too onerous.

There are many suitable overnight camping sites along the river and it was mentioned we should include an overnight camp on our calendar in the future.
With the day’s heat building up, it was decided to head back to the car and home, stopping at Nathalia Bakery for some enjoyable iced coffee.
Thanks to Dianne and Howard for co-ordinating the day.
