Witnesses to Shepparton bin fires wanted

Police are hoping someone driving to work may have witnessed several bins being lit on fire in one of Shepparton’s industrial areas this week.

August 23, 2014 4:12am

Shepparton police Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Gary Dean said at least four bins were set alight in the area of Williams Rd, Lockwood Rd and Sherif St in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A wheelie bin was set on fire at the corner of Lockwood and Williams Rds at 1.30am; a rubbish bag and a bin were set alight in the same area at 2am; another fire was found in that area at 4.30am; and a bin at the corner of Lockwood Rd and Sherif St was set alight between 6am and 6.30am.

‘‘It’s probably going to be kids that have done it,’’ Det Sen Const Dean said.

‘‘I’m hoping there’ll be some witnesses to that last lot of bins being set on fire, given that people would have been going to work around that time.’’

Anyone with information can phone Shepparton police Crime Investigation Unit on 58205800.
