Watt Rd bridge to close for 10 weeks
Work on the Watt Rd bridge in Mooroopna is getting under way this week.
The work, which will cost about $200 000, will run for 10 weeks, during which time the bridge will be closed.
Road users are advised to seek an alternative route during this time.
‘‘The maintenance will include strengthening the bridge’s foundation,’’ Greater Shepparton City Council’s infrastructure director Steve Bowmaker said.
‘‘Once that work is done, council will replace some deck timbers and resurface the bridge.’’
The work aims to extend the useful life of the bridge, which is one of three remaining all-wooden bridges in the municipality.
There will be no increase to the bridge’s three-tonne weight limit for traffic.
‘‘The work ensures the bridge remains functional for as long as possible while council continues to investigate options for replacing the bridge completely,’’ he said.
‘‘Unfortunately due to the bridge having only one lane, it will have to be closed completely during the maintenance period.
‘‘Council apologises for any inconvenience.’’
The bridge works will overlap the completion of recent work on Watt Rd to repair past flood damage and improve the resilience of the road for future flooding.
‘‘Both of these important projects are part of council’s commitment to improving roads and road infrastructure across the municipality,’’ Mr Bowmaker said.
