Shepparton can people can expect perfect weather for an Aussie Christmas.CHLOE WARBURTON December 19, 2013 5:31am
After a long spring, the hot weather is finally settling in for the Goulburn Valley — and it looks like Wednesday next week will be the perfect temperature for an Aussie Christmas.
Yesterday reached a high of nearly 38°C, while today is forecast to reach 40°C.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast for Christmas Day is 32°C.
‘‘It was 27°C last year and 28°C the year before, so it’s not too dissimilar,’’ forecaster Peter Blake said yesterday.
‘‘Shepparton hasn’t had a Christmas Day temperature above 35°C since 1998. It’s good weather for all that food we’ll be looking to stuff our bellies.’’
But before Christmas, there will be some hot days to swelter through.
The temperature will keep climbing tomorrow to a top of 41°C and a low of 22°C, meaning the Goulburn Valley will swelter through a restless night before the temperature drops to an expected maximum of 34°C on Saturday.
Mr Blake said a southerly change would bring some cooler weather, including 31°C on Sunday, 28°C on Monday and 27°C on Tuesday.
‘‘The temperature will continue dropping after Saturday, but (yesterday) and the next two days there’ll be a lot of air conditioning being used,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ve seen the hot weather in the west and north areas of Australia and the northerly wind is bringing that down towards us at the moment, but the southerly will come through on Friday and cool us down.’’
