Tasmania perfect for honeymoon
A gift registry set up through Jetset Travel enabled newlyweds Jemima Murphy and Wesley Featherston Wilkie to have a wonderful two-week honeymoon in Tasmania, all expenses paid.

Because Jemima and Wesley had already bought their home and were paying off a mortgage, they couldn’t afford a holiday, so the honeymoon registry was the perfect solution.
“Jetset made it so easy for us,’’ Jemima said.
Travelling over on the Spirit of Tasmania, Jemima and Wesley had a luxury cabin at the front of the boat and were able to watch their arrival in Devonport from its huge window.
Having their own car made transport around the island state easy and they spent the first night in Somerset before heading to Strahan for two days.
‘‘We went four-wheel motorbike riding up and down the dunes and Wesley, who is a farm boy, loved it. Although it scared the hell out of me, I still had fun,’’ Jemima said.
From a five-hour Gordon River Cruise they saw Sarah Island, where many convicts were banished, and Jemima said their guide was hilarious but informative.
At the View 42 Degrees Restaurant and Bar overlooking Macquarie Harbour in Strahan, the couple feasted on a smorgasbord of freshlycaught seafood with locally-produced wine.
The highlight of the trip for Jemima was Curringa, a working farm at Hamilton, where they stayed in a self-contained cabin with a fire, spa and beautiful views.
‘‘I didn’t want to leave, Wes nearly had to drag me out of there,’’ Jemima said.
From a self-contained unit in Hobart just around the corner from Salamanca Market, they visited Port Arthur and toured the Cadbury factory, Cascade Brewery and Lark Distillery on the Taste Hobart tour.
‘‘There were lots of tastings so we were very happy by the end of that day,’’ Jemima said.
They took a ferry to the MONA Museum, which is built into a rock face and contains bizarre and cutting edge art, and dined at Barilla Bay restaurant and oyster farm.
‘‘We even held up the bar for a while in the casino at Hobart and ended up winning quite a bit of money,’’ Jemima said.
In Launceston they stayed in heritage accommodation at the Old Bakery Inn before returning to Devenport to catch the ferry back to the mainland.
Travelling by car at their own pace, Jemima said they had been able to stop at quaint little towns and meet the locals.
‘‘People were just so nice everywhere. Even the cab drivers were friendly. That was one of the best parts of the trip,’’ she said.
‘‘Even though we didn’t do any wilderness treks or go anywhere near Cradle Mountain, we still did a lot of walking and it was an adventurous honeymoon.’’
The couple enjoyed Tasmania so much, they plan to return for their fifth anniversary and maybe again for their tenth.
