Kialla's Bruno Giorgio will host Shepparton's first tango dancing night tomorrow.By Estelle Griepink
Kialla man Bruno Giorgio says he discovered his love of Argentine tango abroad.
‘‘Five years ago, I went to Buenos Aires for a month and did lessons every day and went out dancing every night,’’ Mr Giorgio said.
Mr Giorgio will hold Shepparton’s first tango dancing night at The Olivehouse on Saturday.
Attendees will learn the basics of tango from two renowned teachers — dancing partners Rina Joy and Nadim Sawaya.
Ms Joy has taught and performed in Tokyo and Mr Sawaya is one of Australia’s top tango DJs.
Mr Giorgio said Ms Joy advocated using tango to aid people suffering Parkinson’s Disease to achieve a better quality of life.
‘‘It’s very healthy and it can slow down the effects of dementia,’’ he said.
‘‘Anyone can do it at any age, even when they’re 80 or 90.’’
Mr Giorgio said people interested in tango should not be daunted.
‘‘This is social tango, it’s very basic and you can walk it,’’ Mr Giorgio said.
‘‘It’s all about a walk and embrace and listening to the music, feeling its passion and power.’’
More than 100 tickets have already been sold.
‘‘I’m delighted and surprised with the response,’’ he said.
