Suspect Tatura fire destroys Mercedes

A suspicious fire caused thousands of dollars in damage to a Mercedes-Benz van near Tatura early yesterday morning.

Shepparton police Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Glenn Parmansche said police were called to a burning car at the rear of a Craven Rd address near Tatura at 4.15am.

The fire is estimated to have caused at least $10000 in damage to the white 2005-model Mercedes-Benz Sprint van.

Det Sen Const Parmansche said witnesses heard noises and saw flames before calling authorities.

‘‘By the time police and fire crews arrived, the vehicle was completely involved and damaged,’’ he said.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious.
