New addition at Nagambie's Gilgai Farm.By Rhiannon Gavalakis
A half-sister to racing superstar Black Caviar was born at champion breeder Rick Jamieson’s Nagambie property on Friday.
Gilgai Farm horse manager Meaghan Strickland-Wood — who was also present when Black Caviar was born — said the arrival of the filly was much anticipated.
‘‘She was the last one to foal out of all of Rick’s mares, so we were all very excited,’’ Ms Strickland-Wood said.
‘‘The best was saved for last.’’
She described the foal as a ‘‘very leggy’’ filly, who covered a lot of ground with her stride.
Ms Strickland-Wood said the filly had yet to be named, but was known around the farm as Helsinge’s foal, after her dam.
The foal could be worth millions of dollars, with another half-sister sold in Sydney for $2.6 million in April last year.
