Students and staff at St Georges Rd Primary School have celebrated the Shepparton school's 60th anniversary.By Chloe Warburton
St Georges Rd Primary School students enjoyed travelling back in time on Friday when celebrations of the school’s 60th year wrapped up with an assembly.
Students took part in old-time games like hopscotch, skipping and egg-and-spoon races and a special celebration dance was performed at the assembly.
There was also a photo display of the school’s history and on October 16, students gathered on the school oval to form a giant 60 for a commemorative photo.
The school is also working on a labyrinth and families have the chance to buy memorial bricks that will be part of the finished project.
Assistant principal Cecilia Morris said students had enjoyed taking part in the festivities.
‘‘Digging up our history is exciting,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ve had parents come in to look at photos from when they were at the school and we’ve got a few staff members that have been here forever who have enjoyed it too.
‘‘It has created a lot of buzz.
‘‘The games day in particular was fantastic and it will be one the kids will remember for a long, long time.’’
