The Labor party has promised $25 million to support SPC Ardmona if it wins the election.By Jarrod Whittaker
Labor has dramatically upped the stakes in the battle for Murray, pledging $25 million to support struggling canner SPC Ardmona if it wins the election.
The funding, announced yesterday by Federal Industry Minister Kim Carr and Labor's Murray Candidate Rod Higgins, is contingent on the company committing to the region long-term.
Senator Carr said without support, SPC Ardmona could be forced to close by mid-next year.
He said Labor would not let the company collapse and called on the Victorian Government to match the investment.
