Sounds of summer at Queen's Gardens
The Live at the Park concert drew about 240 people to Shepparton’s Queen’s Gardens at the weekend to see a diverse line-up of Goulburn Valley bands.
More than 200 people gathered to take in performances by some of the Goulburn Valley’s best musicians on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
The Live at the Park concert, organised by Word and Mouth and the 3630 Festival committee, drew about 240 people to Shepparton’s Queen’s Gardens at the weekend to see a diverse line-up of pop, rock, alternative and heavy metal acts — all bred in the Goulburn Valley.
Bury the Truth, The Manners, Jay Sea, Mother Dearest, Bone Dry, Sweet As Taylor, Many More, Jalen Smith and Hurt But Hopeful performed as a crowd made up of young and old relaxed on beanbags, blankets and camping chairs.
The day was organised to fill the void left by the postponement of the 3630 Festival, and to give the bands involved a chance to perform.
Word and Mouth project manager Jim Gow said the day had been a success and Queen’s Gardens had proved itself as a venue.
‘‘We’re really happy with the publicity leading up to the event — it really gained its own momentum,’’ he said. ‘‘The community is a pretty good winner here — people came out and they’ve really gotten involved and it’s encouraging to see.
‘‘Even People Supporting People dropped the price of their sausages in bread.
‘‘It was a really big day for everyone and the bands were awesome — they were so diverse and just magic on the day,’’ Mr Gow said.
‘‘We’ve proved this is a good venue and it’s beautiful and green.
‘‘It’s something that should be enjoyed more and not just something you just look at when you drive past.’’
