Getting upgrade: Shepparton will finally receive a new courthouse.

The News understands Victorian Deputy Premier Peter Ryan and Victorian Attorney-General Robert Clark will make the pre-budget announcement in Shepparton today.

The new court complex will replace ageing and degraded facilities housing the present Magistrates’ Court and sittings of the Supreme Court and County Court.

The new facility will be built on land occupied by the existing court facilities and an adjoining site, with court sittings able to continue during construction.

The funding, believed to be close to $70million, will enable the existing building to be replaced with a new, purpose-built multi-jurisdictional court complex. It will also accommodate an additional magistrate and extra staff for the complex. Some 150 jobs will be created during construction and there will be 14 more permanent jobs once the complex is complete.
