Hotel Australia publican Paul Tsorbaris is the latest ambassador for The News' Look After Your Mates campaign.By Riahn Smith
Shepparton’s Paul Tsorbaris does not want a fun night out to end in tragedy.
Mr Tsorbaris took over the management of Hotel Australia this year and is the newest ambassador for The News’ Look After Your Mates campaign.
The publican, who sees the effects of alcohol on a daily basis, said there was no excuse for getting behind the wheel of the car when you had too much to drink.
‘‘There’s no reason why anyone should drink and drive,’’ Mr Tsorbaris said.
‘‘There’s taxis, there’s the Night Rider Bus, which is a cheap alternative, and there’s always someone who hasn’t been drinking to give you a lift home.’’
Mr Tsorbaris said everyone had a role to play in keeping the community safe — from publicans and venue staff to peers and passers-by.
‘‘I like to see people have a great night here and get home safely,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s not just about legal duty of care, it’s about genuine concern for the community.
‘‘At the end of the day if someone’s with half-a-dozen mates and he’s blind drunk and doesn’t know what he’s doing, if one of them’s a good mate, they’ll make sure they get him home safe.
‘‘It’s our community, they’re our kids, we have to look after them.’’
