A lucky couple from Shepparton have come forward to claim a $715 471 division one lotto prize.By Rhiannon Gavalakis
It’s not every day you sell a lottery ticket worth close to a million dollars, but that’s exactly what happened at the Mooroopna Newsagency on Saturday.
Newsagency owner Andrew Jones said this was the seventh division one ticket he had sold in his 11 years of owning the business.
‘‘It’s great to know that you’ve sold something that has basically changed someone’s life,’’ Mr Jones said.
‘‘It’s (fantastic) when it’s a regular customer because you have that personal contact with them.’’
The couple in their 50s, who have chosen to remain anonymous, were one of six entrants who shared in a $4
‘‘They were shocked because they didn’t know they’d won until they checked the ticket on Monday,’’ Mr Jones said.
He said the win had put a good vibe in the town and reinforced the Tattslotto dream for local people — that it does happen.
The winning husband said he and his wife were up all night thinking about how they would spend the prize money.
‘‘When I found out I’d won division one I was speechless. I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night,’’ he said.
‘‘We’re going to buy a good caravan and go four-wheel-driving around Australia — we’ll live the Australian dream.
‘‘We might go for an overseas trip next year too.’’
The couple also won a number of lower divisional prizes, for a total win of $787
