Shepparton's new look blood donor centre is having an open day today.By Rhiannon Gavalakis
Giving blood will be a more comfortable experience with a new-look blood donor centre launched in Shepparton recently.
The Fryer’s St facility is hosting an open day today to show off the refreshed and modernised interior and new furniture aimed at providing a more relaxing environment for donors.
Australian Red Cross Blood Service spokeswoman Shae Smith encouraged Goulburn Valley residents to come down to the facility and check it out.
‘‘We believe that the new-look centre will go a long way to encouraging people to give blood,’’ she said.
‘‘It makes the facility look more modern and it’s certainly now more comfortable.’’
Ms Smith said during next month the centre needed to fill 765 appointments to donate blood, and there were 336 places still available.
‘‘There are some people who may be unsure if they can donate,’’ she said.
‘‘So we’re encouraging them to come in and have a chat to find out.’’
Ms Smith said staff members would be on stand-by to help answer any queries.
A sausage sizzle, balloons for children and Billy the Blood Drop mascot will be part of the open day.
