About 100 sheep were put down after the truck they were travelling in rolled over at Tocumwal on Tuesday afternoon.
Cobram police Senior Constable Trent Taylor said a truck carrying about 450 sheep was travelling south on Goulburn Valley Hwy about 4
Sen Const Taylor said the sheep moved inside the trailer, shifting the truck’s load and causing the truck to roll over on a bend.
‘‘From witnesses at the scene, there were no issues with the driver’s conduct. It was just a load shift on a precarious bend,’’ Sen Const Taylor said.
‘‘The Department of Primary Industries had to put down a third of the sheep.’’
Sen Const Taylor said the male truck driver, 38, was able to pull himself out of the vehicle.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the man was flown to Wangaratta Base Hospital with neck and back injuries, where he remains in a serious, but stable condition.
The road was blocked for eight hours before reopening.
