A Rushworth footballer is recovering in a South Australian hospital after falling from a balcony while on an end-of-season football trip with teammates on Saturday night.

Rushworth Football Club president Peter Schade said the 29-year-old man sustained a “broken ankle, cracked ribs, three broken vertebrae and a broken arm” in the fall.

Mr Schade said about “seven or eight” of the club’s players, including new coach Jake Lloyd, travelled to South Australia on Thursday night.

“I don’t like players going on footy trips to towns, but, at the end of the day, you can’t stop them – they’re all adults,” Mr Schade said.
