Reduce stress with yoga at the lake

Yoga instructor Jenny Scandolera is urging residents to take part in free yoga sessions.

By Kristin Favaloro

Shepparton yoga instructor Jen Scandolera is urging people to take part in a free yoga program starting Saturday.

‘‘Yoga reduces stress and allows you to find a sense of calm in a busy lifestyle,’’ Ms Scandolera said.

‘‘It teaches you how to breathe, which assists the nervous system and tones muscles and strengthens.

‘‘Emotionally it can also help your temperament... things that happen on the mat you can take out into the world.’’

Greater Shepparton City Council is running the yoga program at Victoria Park Lake.

The program is part of the council’s Activities in the Park program, which has been funded by Parks Victoria.

It aims to give locals and visitors the chance to take part in activities within parks, reserves and bushland in City of Greater Shepparton.

Leisure facilities officer David Quinn said the program would run for four weeks and was free to all participants.

‘‘Yoga is a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy,’’ Mr Quinn said.

‘‘I encourage anyone who is interested in yoga, or anyone who has never taken a yoga class to come along and try it out.

‘‘We will also be rolling the program out to the small towns in Greater Shepparton.’’

The program starts on Saturday at 8am and will run for four weeks.
