Park event fills festival hole
The gap left when it was announced the 3630 Festival would be postponed this year has been filled with two music-oriented events set to take place within a fortnight of each other.
By Chloe WarburtonWhen it was announced the 3630 Festival would be postponed this year, it looked like a long, empty February for music lovers.
But the gap has already been filled with two music-oriented events set to take place within a fortnight of each other — and both of them have a connection with the 3630 Festival.
The first took place last night as a community meeting where people had the chance to tell the 3630 Festival committee what they wanted to see in the region when it came to music and gigs.
The second event is a resurrection of the popular Live at the Pool concert series (renamed Live at the Park), which attracted teenagers from across the region to pools where concerts would be set up in the early 2000s.
Word and Mouth have organised the event for the original date of the 3630 Festival, which was set to take place on February
Several local bands who were signed to play at the festival before it was postponed will play at Live at the Park, including The Manners, Bury the Truth, Jay Sea, Mother Dearest and Sweet As Taylor.
Word and Mouth project manager Jim Gow said Live at the Park was a good way to fill the gap left by the 3630 Festival.
‘‘When the festival was postponed a lot of people were disappointed, including the local bands,’’ he said.
‘‘After talking to Jamie, it was clear she was upset about letting down the local bands, so we thought we’d change the date (for our event) and offer local music lovers a second prize.’’
Mr Gow said the committee was in the last stages of finalising the venue.
