A new medical centre opposite Kialla Gardens retirement village could create at least 30 new jobs.

Mildura company Tristar Medical Group received a permit to build the medical centre on December 15 last year.

Project manager Campbell Matthies said the new facility was scheduled to open on July 9.

Wodonga company Premier Building and Construction started the project three weeks ago.

Mr Matthies said the centre could employ at least four nurses, eight doctors, 10 receptionists and cleaners.

Tristar Medical Group has 31 medical clinics across NSW and Victoria.

Nagambie has the closest of those clinics to Kialla.

‘‘We have clinics of different sizes, ranging from clinics with one doctor to our head office in Mildura with about 20 doctors,’’ he said.

‘‘It’s simply a matter of trying to place doctors in under-doctored areas.’’

Mr Matthies said the group had a specific department to employ doctors from different backgrounds.

‘‘Some doctors may work in the area who are maybe a bit later in their careers and don’t want to run their own practice anymore,’’ he said.

‘‘We have a number of doctors who may have worked in the hospital system and want to get into general practice and we also work closely with international medical graduates.’’

The $3 million project will build a medical centre including eight to 10 consulting rooms, a medical procedures room, reception area and cafe.

Mr Matthies said another building as part of the project could be a pharmacy and there was space for a health retailer such as an optometrist.
