Christians from Shepparton and the surrounding district will join millions across the globe in World Day of Prayer this Friday, March 1.
St Brendan’s Catholic Church priest Father Joe Taylor will lead Friday’s ecumenical World Day of Prayer service.

Congregations at Shepparton and Pine Lodge will hold ecumenical services as part of the annual worldwide event, which this year will involve more than 3 million people in more than 170 countries.
The day is described by its international organising committee as ‘‘like a global Mexican wave of prayer’’.
St Brendan’s Catholic Church priest Father Joe Taylor will lead the district’s World Day of Prayer with a non-denominational service at the church at 123 Knight St from 10.15 am on Friday.
Pine Lodge Uniting Church on the corner of New Dookie Rd and Pine Lodge North Rd will also hold a prayer service from 8 pm.
Father Joe said World Prayer Day was a chance to reflect on people facing oppression or suffering across the world, with the focus on a different country each year.
He said this year the focus would be on France and its territories, which include New Caledonia, Guadeloupe, Guyana and French Polynesia.
‘‘It is a special day to get to know a country and reflect on the problems its people face — in France at the moment they have immigration issues,’’ Fr Joe said.
‘‘But it is also a chance to create an awareness of the beauty and diversity of our world.’’
Fr Joe said worshippers at St Brendan’s could join a morning tea after Friday’s service.
Pine Lodge congregation member Margaret North said parishioners this year would hold a French themed supper with French food.
‘‘But snails are out of season,’’ Mrs North said.
