Man punched at Merrigum footy match

Police are appealing for witnesses of an alleged assault at Merrigum Recreation Reserve last Saturday.

Tatura police Leading Senior Constable Ross Adams said a man, 53, was waiting in line at the canteen when a man in his 40s approached him about 2pm.

Leading Sen Const Adams said the two men were believed to have had a verbal argument before the man in his 40s allegedly punched the other man in the face. The victim, who was visiting from Tasmania, received cuts to his forehead and nose.

Leading Sen Const Adams said the men were not known to each other.

Anyone with information about the assault is urged to phone Tatura police on 58243099.
