A Kyabram man accused of attacking a paramedic before arming himself with a rifle and firing several shots has been remanded in custody until next week.

Kevin Cahill, 32, was taken into police custody on Friday night and sat calmly in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court yesterday. He appeared before Magistrate Susan Armour, who conducted the hearing via video link from Wangaratta.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Les Oroszvary said there would be no application for bail and requested Mr Cahill be remanded to appear at the court on January 7.

Mr Cahill’s lawyer, Luke Slater, said in response to a question from Ms Armour that there were no custody management issues for his client.

‘‘Can I have it noted there will be a bail application on that day?’’ Mr Slater asked.

Mr Cahill is charged with 13 offences, including two counts each of recklessly causing serious injury and conduct endangering life. It is alleged two paramedics attended a home in Kyabram about 9pm on Friday and called for police assistance.

Mr Cahill is alleged to have turned on one of the paramedics.

As the paramedics fled the house, he is alleged to have fired several rifle rounds, but later gave himself up to police.
