Grassfire out of control in Poplar Ave, Shepparton area
Country Fire Authority are on scene of an out of control fire in the Poplar Ave, Shepparton area. The fire is travelling in a northerly direction.
UPDATE, 5.38pm:
The fire has been brought under control but emergency services will remain on scene for some time this evening.
Shepparton police are asking people avoid the area to reduce congestion.
People are advised to stay clear of Benalla Rd near Shepparton Market Place and Rosemont Cres, off Fordyce St.
UPDATE, 5.05pm:
Country Fire Authority are still on scene of a grassfire in the Popllar Ave, Shepparton area. The fire is fast moving and there are 24 CFA units on scene.
The fire is travelling in a north westerly direction towards Zurcas Lane.
This fire is expected to impact Grahamvale, Shepparton, Orrvale between the hours of 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
This grassfire is approximately 20 hectares in size and is out of control.
The fire is burning in orchard / grassland area located behind the Shepparton Market Place Shopping Centre.
The fire is putting up a significant amount of smoke which can be seen across the Shepparton area.
Be aware of road closures and emergency vehicles in the area.
BREAKING, 4.38pm:
Twenty four CFA untis are currently on scene of an out of control grassfire in Poplar Ave, Shepparton.
The fire is fast moving and is travelling in a northerly direction towards Zurcas Lane from Poplar Avenue, between Doyles Road and Fordyce Street.
This fire is expected to impact Shepparton, Orrvale anytime within the next two hours.
This grassfire is approximately 5 hectares in size and is out of control,

- Turn on your vehicle headlights and drive slowly; smoke will make it difficult to see.
- Conditions are changing, homes can offer safety.
- If you are away from home; do not return.
- If time permits, check your neighbours to see if they are monitoring conditions.
- If you are experiencing any symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, the Department of Health advises people to seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.
