In 2012, artist Nici Cumpston was commissioned by the Friends of Shepparton Art Museum to produce a body of work for the SAM collection that engages with the Shepparton region. Nici has produced a series of hand coloured photographs that testify to the relationship between Aboriginal people and country in the Shepparton region.
A free Artist Talk will be held today at 5pm, where Nici will speak about her time in Shepparton and her unique process of hand colouring photographs. If you wish to attend, please phone (03) 5832 9861.
The artist talk will be followed by an official unveiling of the commission at the Friends of SAM Christmas Party and Friends Forever exhibition opening tonight at 6pm, to be held at SAM.
Tickets for this part of the evening can be purchased at the SAM Shop, or by phoning (03) 5832 9860, for $20 per person. Drinks and finger food will be provided. The Friends of SAM will also be drawing their annual fundraiser raffle, first prize being an Indigenous painting by Queenie Nungarrayi Stewart, second prize a Christmas hamper, and third prize bottles of local wine.
You can purchase tickets today from the SAM shop until 4pm for $2 each (all proceeds will go towards a future artwork acquisition for SAM).
