Shepparton East Primary School’s new generation of Preps started school on Monday with only a few sniffles.

Many of the students were already familiar faces, having taken part in orientation and transition days during the past few months to get them used to the school environment.

Principal Trent McCrae said this year was one of the school’s biggest years for Prep intakes.

‘‘We’ve got two Prep classes with 26 students enrolled — our enrolments have jumped up overall,’’ he said.

‘‘There’s been a lot of interest in the school lately, which is good.

‘‘We had an assembly this morning and there were only a few tears and the parents are staying for a morning tea with us to make it a bit easier.’’

Prep student Ella Daldy said she was not scared or nervous about her first official day at school.

‘‘I’m looking forward to going outside and playing in the playground,’’ she said.

Fellow student Taig Taylor was keen to get outside at recess and lunch, too.

‘‘I really want to play outside and play soccer,’’ he said.
