St Luke’s Catholic Primary School enjoyed a day of festivities last Thursday to celebrate the feast day of their patron saint.

Students attended a morning mass at St Brendan’s church before returning to the school for morning tea with families, friends and parishioners.

Teacher and co-ordinator of the day, Michelle Hicks said it was a great opportunity for the children to learn more about their faith and the history of the school.

She said it was good to see the students so excited about the event, particularly those in the senior grades.

‘‘The Year 6s love it because of the leadership,’’ Ms Hicks said.

‘‘They’re in charge of the activities. They plan the activity and they run the activity for each group.

‘‘It’s a chance for them to get together with their friends from the other year levels as well.’’

The activities included making paper angels, planting vegetables in their Eco Park and learning about the history of St Luke.

Ms Hicks said it had been a rush to pull it all together but was pleased with the involvement of both the students and their parents.

‘‘They’re just beautiful kids and really supportive families,’’ she said.

‘‘It’s just a great community.’’
