LaTrobe University’s Shepparton campus has this week welcomed 237 students to four of its faculties.
It takes the total number of campus enrolments so far to 496.
Among the new students are four Faculty of Health Sciences students who have moved to Shepparton from elsewhere.
Aidan McCready, 18, is originally from Werribee, but moved to the region last week to study physiotherapy.
He said he was looking forward to living out of home for the first time and had already noticed differences between Shepparton and his home.
‘‘I’ve been here for a week, but I’ve noticed that the drivers are much more likely to give way to you,’’ he said jokingly.
Warrnambool native Laura Roberts, 18, is also studying physiotherapy.
‘‘I’d never been to Shepparton before moving. It takes 5 and a half hours to drive here,’’ she said.
She said she was enjoying the campus’ small size.
‘‘You get to know people much more quickly,’’ she said.
‘‘And Shepparton is not too different from home, except that there is no beach.’’
Isabella Meagher, 21, enrolled in a physiotherapy degree after completing a bachelor of exercise and sport science at Deakin University’s Burwood campus last year.
‘‘I’ve always wanted to do physio and was willing to move anywhere,’’ she said.
‘‘In Shepparton everyone is really friendly — it’s so different to Deakin, which was so big.’’
She said a stranger offering her washing machine highlighted the difference between Melbourne and Shepparton.
‘‘A lady even offered to let me use her washing machine to do my washing the other day,’’ she said.
‘‘It just wouldn’t happen in Melbourne.’’
Toby Marshallsay, 18, moved from Melbourne this year to study paramedicine.
He said he was looking forward to making new friends.
The students will spend one year studying at the Shepparton campus before moving to LaTrobe’s Bendigo campus to complete their four-year degree.
