A number of seats across the region will be abolished following a final redistribution of state electorates tabled in Parliament today.By Darren Linton
Nationals MP’s Paul Weller, Bill Sykes and Tim McCurdy will have their seats abolished under a final redistribution of state electorates tabled in the Victorian Parliament today.
The Seat of Seymour, held by Liberal Cindy McLeish, will also go in the redistribution.
The Electoral Boundaries Commission received more than 600 written submissions or objections to the proposed changes released earlier this year and while the final seat structure is significantly different, there has been no deviation from a major reshuffle of northern Victorian electorates.
The ECB said substantial changes in most parts of the state have been required to restore the electorates to approximate equality. Only two districts have been left unchanged — Gippsland East and Gippsland South.
Seats to be abolished are Rodney (Paul Weller), Benalla (Bill Sykes), Murray Valley (Tim McCurdy), Ballarat East, Ballarat West, Clayton, Derrimut, Doncaster, Keilor, Kilsyth, Lyndhurst, Mitcham, Scoresby, Seymour, Swan Hill.
New seats created in northern Victoria will be Eildon, Euroa, Murray Plains and Ovens Valley.
Murray Plains replaces and extends the seat of Swan Hill held by Water and Agriculture Minister Peter Walsh.
