Vikramjit Singh escaped from the prison on August 1, days before he was due to be released.
Corrections Victoria told The News last week Singh was due to be deported when his sentence ended, seven days after he escaped.
Singh was arrested in Melbourne suburb Sunshine yesterday afternoon.
He faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court and has been returned to custody.
Singh was the eighth Dhurringile Prison escapee since September last year.
