City of Greater Shepparton councillor Denis Patterson is hopeful someone will build a new pub at Tallygaroopna in the near future.By Jarrod Whittaker
A City of Greater Shepparton councillor, during a debate about a town plan, has lamented the destruction of Tallygaroopna’s pub.
Last week, councillors voted to accept the Tallygaroopna Community Plan at their August meeting.
The document included a community profile and key projects for the town’s future.
But it was the hardships the town had faced that had Cr Dennis Patterson talking.
He said the Tallygaroopna community had been hit hard in recent years by flooding and the destruction of its hotel by fire.
‘‘Some people say it’s only a hotel, but it’s a meeting place,’’ the ex-Tallygaroopna resident said.
‘‘Hopefully, someone can build a new premises out there in the near future.’’
He said the community plan was a move in the right direction.
The plan listed connecting the town to natural gas and sewage as high-priority infrastructure projects.
It also suggested improving water pressure as a priority.
Other high-priority projects included improving services for children and the elderly, establishing a notice board and also a cycling and walking track.
Cr Michael Polan said the Tallygaroopna community was not after a lot.
‘‘It’s about bringing the community back together,’’ Cr Polan said.
‘‘A high priority is the noticeboard.
‘‘It means the community want to be engaged.’’
