Pair will be at Aquamoves Open Day.By Rhiannon Gavalakis
The toughest trainer on television show The Biggest Loser, Commando Steve, is getting set to put Shepparton residents through their paces at the Aquamoves Open Day on Saturday.
The former military member — whose actual name is Steve Willis — will be hosting a group fitness class as part of the day and said he was looking forward to his first visit to the city.
‘‘I think there’s going to be quite a few hundred people there. It’s an initiative to bring people together to share in health and fitness,’’ he said.
Commando Steve said he had visited several outlying areas in Australia and had been impressed by regional fitness facilities.
‘‘I think a lot of it really comes down to the personality and people that represent fitness in those areas,’’ he said.
‘‘If those people are motivated and driven, it engages more people within the community to do the same.’’
Olympic gold medallist Leisel Jones has also been called in for the event.
She will be coaching Shepparton Swimming Club and Shepparton Triathlon Club members on swimming techniques and spectators are welcome.
Greater Shepparton City Council manager of active living Tony Tranter said the open day aimed to showcase all Aquamoves had to offer.
‘‘We want to encourage people to come and have a look, whether they have never been before or are members, it’s a day for everyone,’’ he said.
New programs including a seven-week lifestyle challenge will also be launched on the day.
Mr Tranter said there would be a chance for people to meet and greet Commando Steve and Leisel.
Entertainment including jumping castles, face painting and live performances from The X-Factor’s Tyler Hudson would also be part of the day.
