Cobram cat burglar suspect arrested

A man charged with assaulting police in a Cobram street has also been questioned over a burglary during which a pet cat was drowned.

Cobram Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested a man yesterday afternoon following a burglary and animal cruelty matter that occurred at a Punt Road Cobram property on Wednesday morning. 
It is alleged the house was broken into and the resident’s pet cat drowned in the laundry. 
The 36-year-old suspect was approached by detectives around 1pm in Bank Street Cobram however upon speaking to the man he became aggressive and refused to cooperate with their requests. 
It is alleged the man then assaulted one of the detectives by striking him to the face causing bruising and lacerations. 
A scuffle then occurred and the man was arrested. He sustained minor injuries during the incident. 
The man was taken back to the Cobram police station where he was interviewed and released later in the day charged with assault police and resist arrest. 
The man has been bailed to the Cobram Magistrate’s Court on 3 September in relation to the assault related matters.
The investigation into the burglary and killing of the pet cat ‘Puss-Puss’ continues.
