Cash up for grabs
Rotary Club of Shepparton South members are aiming to top last year’s fundraising success with an even bigger dinner auction in May.
By John LewisThe club last year raised $28 000 for the refurbishment of Goulburn Valley Health’s palliative care rooms.
This year the club is donating all proceeds of its efforts to the children’s cancer charity Challenge, with a special focus on Goulburn Valley children with cancer.
‘‘This year we will have a strong local connection with champion golfer Jarrod Lyle attending,’’ club publicity officer Graham Royden said.
‘‘Jarrod is battling cancer himself — and he is an ambassador for Challenge as well.’’
Mr Royden said the Goulburn Murray Credit Union had already come to the party by offering $1000 in cash to be auctioned by selling keys to a cashbox at the May dinner.
Mr Royden said last year’s support from businesses and individuals donating auction items was overwhelming and contributed to the huge amount raised.
‘‘We’re hoping to raise even more this year,’’ he said.
The Rotary Club of Shepparton South dinner auction for Challenge supporting kids with cancer will be held at the GV Hotel on Saturday, May 18.
Bookings at $30 a head can be made by phoning Mr Royden on 0418 518 782.
■ To donate auction items, phone John Stuckey on 5831 3149 or 0417 144 458.
