Firefighters tackle the Euroa hayshed fire yesterday.

Fire crews worked through the night to put out a fire that started in a Euroa hayshed yesterday afternoon.

Authorities estimate the fire destroyed more than 300 haybales and damaged the shed, a forklift and part of a truck.

Country Fire Authority operations officer Scott Walters said investigators were still working to determine the cause of the blaze on the Euroa-Strathbogie Rd property.

‘‘We actually don’t have any indication of what started it at this stage,’’ Mr Walters said late yesterday. ‘‘But it doesn’t appear suspicious.’’

Mr Walters said the fire was spotted by officers in a nearby fire tower about 1.30pm yesterday.

Units from Shepparton, Euroa, Violet Town, Strathbogie, Creightons Creek, Kelvin View, Longwood, Loxley, Sheans Creek, Balmattum and Branjee attended the fire.

‘‘That includes 10 tankers and two pumpers,’’ Mr Walters said.

‘‘We’ve also got shire water tankers here.’’

An excavator arrived late in the afternoon to help firefighters containing the fire.

‘‘That’s going to pull all the hay apart so they can put out any flames,’’ Mr Walters said.

‘‘We’re calling it contained, but crews will be there all night.’’

He said firefighters caught the blaze before it could spread to surrounding property or buildings.
