Shepparton Congolese music group Angels Voices Band will open the Riverboats Music Festival in Echuca.

The band, made up of 23 Congolese people, was added to the festival line-up this week.

It will perform to a packed crowd alongside huge music acts at the inaugural festival in Echuca this month.

The band incorporate traditional instruments and perform in colourful, hand-made Congolese dress made from imported fabrics from their homeland.

They will perform a blend of traditional Congolese music, gospel, reggae, international and Australian music at the festival.

Opening the festival on Friday, February 17, the band will be joined by the acoustic roots sound of local artist and Deadly-award finalist Benny Walker, and the sublime harmonies of Vika and Linda Bull.

The Riverboats Music Festival is a great addition to the summer festival calendar and boasts a who’s who of the Australian music scene including Tex Perkins and The Band of Gold, Colin Hay, The Bamboos, Mark Seymour, Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission, Vika and Linda Bull, Lanie Lane, The Audreys (duo), Clairy Brown and The Bangin’ Rackettes, Benny Walker, Kyabram’s Ryan Meeking and The Bride Stripped Back.

Tickets to the official festival breakfast at Beechworth Bakery are selling like hotcakes.

The breakfast is on Sunday, February 19, on the top floor of Beechworth Bakery, featuring live music, views over the Campaspe River, tea, coffee and a delicious spread fresh out of the bakery oven.

The Riverboats Music Festival will be on the third weekend of February each year. This year’s dates are February 17 to 19.
